The mystery behind the disappearance of Caylee Anthony finally came to an end; her remains were found near the residence of her grandparents. With her remains, her family can finally give her a proper burial. The next phase will involve a murder trial for the woman accused of killing Caylee…her own mother.

I would be an eternal optimist if I believed Caylee would be the last child to be murdered or tortured.

Unfortunately, my lack of faith in human nature won’t permit me to believe it.

Although, the media gives excessive press coverage to murdered children and teens, they rarely address a solution.

The media constantly brings this extensive coverage into our living rooms. There was Columbine, Jon Benet Ramsey, and the Texas mother who drowned her children a few years ago. Locally, there was a woman in Dayton, Ohio who microwaved her daughter to death. We just can’t escape these high profile killings against innocent children.
 

As a parent, I can understand the challenges of having children. They don’t come with an instruction manual and they all have their own unique personalities.

Parenthood is a great responsibility. Parents have the ability to shape and mold their children into either the next president or serial killer. If you read documented information about the typical criminal, you will learn that many of their troubles developed from their childhood. Many of them were either abused, lived in a one parent home, endured a life of poverty or all of the above.

Many parents expect their children to accomplish more than they ever did. They want to see their children grow up to become good citizens and stay out of trouble.

Children are a valuable commodity and should be treated as such.

A small investment of love, care and discipline can produce a generation of great leaders, athletes, fireman and police officers.

It would serve us adults well to remember this about these little people.
