Has anyone noticed that television has become nothing but a reality show? I saw a commercial for a reality show about people going through sex changes. At first I thought it was a Halloween gag until I realized there are no jokes in reality TV…just too much reality.
There is also an award ceremony for reality stars. For one, I didn't know any of them were stars. I didn't even know there was a reason to care about any them.
Until I saw a magazine with Clay Aiken coming out of the closet, I just thought he was some karaoke guy who had already surpassed his fifteen minutes. Just when I thought he had gone back to obscurity, he was on a magazine cover professing his sexuality.
He decided to shock the world that he was gay.
I wonder if anyone was actually shocked?
Not only do I not care about him, I don't care what he does in his bedroom.
Television has really changed over the years. With the Internet and satellite, fans can stalk celebrities without even leaving their homes.
I am sure David Letterman would agree. Remember the crazy woman who kept breaking into his house? She claimed to be his wife.
Unfortunately, it's a price celebrities have to pay for their fame. We live in a society where some executive thinks we want to watch celebrities share their sexual preferences and deepest secrets.
What next? Celebrities taking showers or using their commodes?
I am guessing reality TV is for the younger generation. Some of us older folk who grew up watching The Jeffersons and Three's Company just don't get it.
I am not sure how far the envelope will be pushed but I am ready for someone to mail it in and come to their senses. I don't know if anyone is listening but I don't worry about Paris Hilton or Britney Spears.
I can barely watch television because it’s not worth watching.
Next to sports, I have my remote locked in on Turner Classics and the American Movie Channel.
I would like to see a reality show about an executive who makes a decision to stop putting on reality shows. I have had it with reality TV. Don't we watch TV to escape reality?
