As a male, I am feeling especially good today. Discovery News reported that scientists discovered the oldest penis in the world. It's estimated to be 400 million years old.
Men rule!
The online version of Nature published the research. An Australian scientific team identified a long clasper, made entirely of bone. An extinct class of armored fish called placoderms used the clasper.
The mating process was similar to that of modern day sharks. It’s an important find because scientists didn’t realize the clasper was an actual sex organ. It was previously mistaken for a pelvic girdle. How about that? A 400 million year old penis and it’s mistaken for a pelvic girdle.
I have always heard that roaches are the only creacture that can survive a nuclear exchange. Well, now add a male penis to the mix. The penis is a powerful organ. It has led to financial ruin, death, scandal and disease.
I thought the male penis had only been getting men into trouble for a few centuries, but 400 million years? That's a lot of history. Apparently, something must have happened because the placoderm is extinct. They are probably extinct because their wives caught them cheating and killed them. After we are long gone, our bones will probably be dug up by future scientists. I wonder if they will mistake our penises for something else?
I just hope it’s not mistaken for a toothpick or piece of string—that would be embarrassing.
