Second chances

NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell, has reinstated former NFL player Michael Vick.

If you aren’t familiar with his story, here's the short version: just a few years ago, he was a prolific NFL quarterback who played for the Atlanta Falcons. Other than playing football, you didn’t hear much else about him. At least until the infamous Ron Mexico incident appeared on the Smoking Gun.

An ex-girlfriend sued Vick for giving her Herpes. She claimed he never told her he had the incurable disease. She also claimed Vick used the alias "Ron Mexico" to buy his Herpes medication. This became the first sign of his questionable character.

He's more infamous for Herpes and dog fighting than playing in the NFL. It’s hard to remember the last time NFL fans cheered for him or wore his jersey.

Who can forget when he broke his leg and sat in a wheelchair? I can remember watching Falcons team owner, Arthur Blank, pushing Vick around in a wheelchair. Blank also said Vick was "like a son."

Instead of being a good son, he's turned out to be a prodigal one. Vick lost his wealth, endorsements, and his reputation. He will always be known as a cruel person who maimed, tortured, and killed dogs without blinking.

Now that his federal prison sentence is over and he has paid for his crime, fans have taken different sides. While some think he should never play in the NFL again, others think he should get a second chance. Although I not a Michael Vick fan, I am leaning towards the latter.

Isn’t this America? Aren’t we known as a nation that forgives and gives second chances? If he can avoid trouble, I don’t know why he shouldn’t get another chance. It's not my place to judge him or his actions since we all make mistakes? Most people have at least tried drugs or alcohol in their life. So where would we be without a second or a third chance?

No one is perfect.

And I bet he never harms another dog again.

I am fine with whatever Goodell does. Whether Vick plays football or not has no impact on my life. If he can convince the NFL he is sorry for his actions, then maybe he should get another chance.

If an owner extends an offer to Vick, I only hope he makes better decisions and surrounds himself with good people.
