Apathetic cockroaches not bothered by apartment explosion

A cockroach is the only insect that could survive a nuclear war. The nasty little buggers have a reputation as being pesky and resilient. If you don’t believe it, just ask residents of an apartment complex in Asbury Park, New Jersey. The Asbury Park Press reported that a tenant tried to rid his apartment of roaches with Raid. The tenant opened a window after feeling light-headed. A combination of oxygen, the aerosol spray, and a lit stove pilot light created a deadly explosion.

The first floor explosion displaced several tenants and blew out windows and doors. A fire department representative confirmed a roach infestation. He said the blast didn’t bother the roaches because they continued with their business.

The city’s code inspectors investigated the explosion. The apartments are owned by 410 Third Avenue LLC. The cockroach is a bizarre insect. The Orkin exterminator website provides extensive information about cockroaches. They have six legs, two antennae, and some have wings. Fortunately, they don’t all fly.
