I enjoy funny books, movies, cartoons, dumb jokes, and anything else involving comedy.
But I must draw the line at the primary races for the American presidency.
I can remember the following presidential campaigns: Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George Bush (the original), George Bush the son, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama. Although their races had some mud-slinging, I don’t recall the races becoming comedy sitcoms with laugh tracks.
This year’s GOP primary is unlike any political race I have ever seen.
Dare I say it? Yes, the Republican primary has become a circus of clowns.
Instead of these guys focusing on immigration, ISIS, social security, and taxes, they have brought out whoopee cushions, hand buzzers, and squirting flowers. Seeing these guys debate against one another compares to watching the old “Who’s on First” skit by Bud Abbott and Lou Costello.
However, I will give Governor John Kasich a pass. He has stayed out of the high school shenanigans and focused on America’s woes.
For anyone too young to remember Abbott and Costello, they were one of the greatest comedy duos in history. They slung jokes like a short-order cook slings hash browns. “Who’s on First is their funniest skit ever.
For anyone familiar with Abbott and Costello, imagine if Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, and Marco Rubio did a reboot? It could be called “Who’s the GOP?”
