The year 2009 was ushered in by the dropping of a six ton ball in Time
Square.
Hopefully, our new leaders will restore peace and prosperity to our great country.
Although 2009 has made its grand entrance, we will continue to carry our problems and shortcomings into the New Year as new resolutions will be made and broken.
People will continue abusing their children and crime will continue.
Others will attempt to give up their drug and alcohol addictions. Some will succeed while most will fail.
We will swear off cigarettes, fried foods and join the local gym and dismiss old lifestyles to pursue new ones. In the beginning, the effort will be there, but the call to what we know will eventually overcome the strongest of wills.
Relationships and marriages will fail, hearts will be break and love will be lost. Furthermore, we will lose friends, family and colleagues to death.
At some point in time, we will hit a brick wall as we do every year. We will ponder our existence and curse our creator for our suffering. We will question life and our own existence. With the passing of every year, we have the same curiosities about life.
After watching Time Square usher in so many new years, I have discovered the key to life. We aren’t placed on this Earth for ourselves but for others. We are here for our children, spouses and friends. We are here to give them love and companionship while making their lives better.
There is a saying that a man isn’t judged by his earthly possessions but by the number of friends he has.
If you are reading this and think you suffered in 2008, you are not alone. Many others also suffered from injustices, unemployment, and strife.
By the grace of our creator, you have a purpose for 2009. You have been given a chance to make things better for yourself and others.
Life isn’t a hopeless; it’s a precious gift. Today is the day for you to promise yourself happiness and to make it happen. Out with old, in with the new…lose those unwanted pounds, dump your insignificant other if they mistreat you and start anew.
It’s 2009! Make it a good one.

What a truthful post you have written. You have addressed a tradition that virtually everyone partakes and then abandons as soon as adversity and challenge stands in the way. It surely doesn't set a good tone for obtaining personal goals throughout the year.
You took a very honest and positive approach to a subject that most just pay a traditional, symbolic gesture to and then carry on as usual. Excellent post!
