If border guards don’t get you, the burger joints will

PETA wants to rent space on border fences from the U.S. Government. Just what we need, more advertising! Only they want to advertise to illegals trying to sneak into the country. The ad space will warn illegals:

"If the Border Patrol Doesn't Get You, the Chicken and Burgers Will — Go Vegan."

"We think that Mexicans and other immigrants should be warned if they cross into the U.S. they are putting their health at risk by leaving behind a healthier, staple diet of corn tortillas, beans, rice, fruits and vegetables," says PETA’s Lindsay Rait.

The Department of Homeland Security is working to complete 670 miles of fencing and other barriers on the Southwest border by Dec. 31. PETA says its billboards would show healthy Mexicans, where their diet of beans, rice and fruit is more in line with PETA’s mission of not eating meat.

Another image on the sign would portray obese American children and adults gorging on fatty foods.

A government spokesman in Washington said the request will be rejected because it would limit fence visibility. Also, the border patrol doesn’t allow advertising on its property or installations.

"The fencing being put in place is, in many cases, mesh fencing to allow our officers to see what's happening on the other side and to better secure the border," said Michael Friel, a spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Rait believes PETA’s advertising could offset fencing costs and "might even be frightening enough to deter people from crossing into the U.S." So PETA thinks someone willing to sacrifice life and limb is willing to forsake a life in America for some fatty foods? I hardly think so.

Most people in foreign countries would do anything to live here and get a taste of American freedom. Fortunately, Americans have the option to choose to eat meat or be vegetarians. Obesity is an epidemic in our country. I work with an obese vegetarian. Although she doesn't eat meat, she eats candy, donuts, drinks soda and doesn't exercise.

Eating meat is only a small part of being obese. Obesity is more deep rooted than eating a hamburger or chicken nugget.
