I scanned the headlines of a few popular gossip magazines. Out of curiosity, I decided to check out Hollywood's latest breakups. With so many breakups, I thought about a relationship article I read last year that compared heart disease and bad relationships.
According to an article in the Archives of Internal Medicine, terrible personal relationships and marital woes can increase the risk for heart disease and reduce life expectancy. Scientists concluded that stress causes health problems associated with terrible relationships.
Researchers studied responses from 9,011 British civil servants (most were married). The study concluded that thirty-four percent of those in terrible relationships may suffer a heart attack or experience other heart problems than their counterparts involved in good relationships. The survey was conducted over a twelve year follow-up period.
Lead author, Robert De Vogli, a researcher with University College in London, concluded that marriage is good when people are cautious about the quality of their spouse. De Vogli also reasoned that health problems are an excellent reason ( if not the only one) to find the right partner.
So if you haven't made any resolutions for 2010, let me make a suggestion: find a partner to love and appreciate you. Not only will it be good for you mentally, it could also save your life!
