From boys to men

Jim Borgman's "Zits"
Another school year has come and gone.

My older son completed his junior year of high school while my youngest completed the sixth grade. Both look forward to the summer.

So far, my sons have grown up fast. I don’t know if they are young or if I am just getting old. It’s probably a combination of the two.

It seems like yesterday when I enrolled them both into Kindergarten.

It seems like yesterday when I drove them to school… now they look forward to getting their own cars and driving themselves to school.

It seems like yesterday when they liked toys…now they like girls.

It seems like yesterday when they counted on their fingers…now they use a calculator.

The days of dressing and waking them for school are long gone.

They have their own alarm clocks, dress themselves, and fix their own breakfast.

They have gone from depending on my wife and me to taking more responsibility for their own lives.

It has been many years since I last poured milk over their cereal because their fingers weren’t strong enough to hold a gallon of milk.

The days when I used to pick them up and carry them around like luggage have passed.

I have learned that it's a parent's duty to raise their children to become respectful young adults.

When I see my sons, it’s hard not to see them as messy little men that barely came to my kneecaps.

I feel fortunate to have been around to watch my sons become respectable teenagers.
