Although it rained for most of the day, Memorial Day still turned out great. My youngest son and I spent the day watching the original Star Wars trilogy. For anyone who doesn't know, May 25, 1977 was the original opening date of Star Wars.
I can remember being six years old and standing in line at a crowded movie theater. I am not a Star Wars nerd, but I have seen the original movie more than fifty times. At one point in my life, I knew the script verbatim.
It's great to see my youngest son share my love for the Star Wars trilogy. He has also seen the original movie numerous times. He is impressed that I got to see it when it first came out.
We spent the day reminiscing and discussing the Star Wars plot. It brought back memories of the same Star Wars discussions I had with my father more than thirty years ago.
Nothing was more shocking than learning that Darth Vader was Luke Skywalker's father. "Luke, I am your father" is one of the most unforgettable moment in movie history.
Many of us have special lifetime memories and conversations with our parents about sports or movies. Spending time with our children can be an important part of their development.
Spending a few moments with our children can be as simple as discussing a movie plot. It’s not always the quantity of time spent together but the quality.
My son saw the Land of the Lost movie trailer. He has expressed an interest in seeing it on the big screen. I told him I used to watch the series as a child back in the 70s. I may have to take him to see the movie so I can tell him about my memories of the old cheesy 70s series.
Land of the Lost looks like another nostalgic subject for future discussion.
