Dating disasters by Dr. Joy Browne

I have read this book and highly recommend it. It's an easy read with under 200 pages. Dr. Joy Browne provides actual personal ads placed by different lovelorn men. She profiles and analyzes the messages being sent out by these guys. You may have had a drink or watched a game with a few of them.

Okay, here's the scoop on these turkeys.

Mr. Married guy is stuck with a wife who doesn’t understand him. If she really understood him, she probably would have never married him in the first place.

Mr. Depressed guy is so fragile he is constantly threatening to end it all if things don’t’ go his way… Adios!

Mr. Cheapskate guy insists on going “dutch” because it will free up money for the next date (sure it will). Some of these cornballs make me want to burn my male membership card.

You can find these guys and their pals in Dr. Browne’s assorted rogue’s gallery. She seems to really have a handle on these guys. She also tells you how to screw up your date and how to avoid doing so. And then there are the 9 dating power tools. These are the unacceptable qualities you should never accept from anyone.

My favorite sections of the book are her takes on money and the overused term we know as the “soul mate.”

Money: most people think of money as nothing but lifeless green paper. Dr. Browne stresses the fallacy behind this thinking. Money is actually more than a piece of paper. It destroys more marriages than anything else. Why? She gives us the reason. It represents power, status, security, dependence and lifestyle choices among other things.

Soulmates: Dr. Brown describes a soulmate as “lust with potential.” This is a good description because couples can easily confuse sex and love when they are not one and the same. If you want to learn more about dating, you will need to get your hands on this book. The logic behind this book could save you from a lifetime of grief and suffering.
