Even before stepping on their first gridiron, many youngsters have already imagined themselves catching a winning touchdown pass in a Super Bowl. After all, dreams have to start somewhere. Originally, professional football was two separate businesses: the American Football League (AFL) and the National Football League (NFL). On June 8, 1966, the two leagues announced they would become one league. In 1970, four years after the announcement, the leagues officially merged into one league with two different divisions. The new league became the National Football League, with it is own logo and a new mission.
The NFL would eventually grow into the most powerful sport conglomerate in America. Professional football is big business. For instance, FanDuel and DraftKings, have become two of the largest names in fantasy football. According to Pro Football Weekly, “An estimate by DraftKings says the industry will take in up to $4 billion in entry fees in the United States this year, and could reach up to $20 billion in 2017.
