Spongebob Squarepants got back

Burger King has been catching some flack for their decision to bring in Sponge Bob Squarepants and Sir Mix A Lot as marketing pitchmen. Burger King's latest commercial has Sponge Bob promoting their kids meal to the tune of a kid friendly version of Baby Got Back.

Although the Today show reported that some groups have found the ad offensive; both Nickelodeon and Burger King defended their commercial by saying it was meant to give a few laughs while being nostalgic about the 90s.

I found the commercial funny and it did take me back to the 90s where Sir-Mix-A-Lot was rapping about "beanpole dames in the magazines." The Spongebob-Burger King connection had me wondering if other companies will start using other Bikini Bottom dwellers to market their products. If not, here are a few promotions ideas:

Patrick Starfish: Patrick is Bikini Bottom's village idiot. Rumor has it he once tried to pay his phone bill at a local Taco Bell. He could become the front man for the Dummy books or Idiot Guides.

Sandy Cheeks: Sandy is Spongebob’s tough talking squirrel friend from Texas. Next to her love for Texas, she has a passion for Karate. Who else could represent the rigors of mixed martial arts (MMA) fighting than Sandy Cheeks? I can just see her submitting an opponent with an armbar. She could also fake her way into the WWE.

Larry the lobster: Larry is Bikini Bottom’s resident bodybuilder. His only purpose is lifting weights, working as a lifeguard, and avoiding lobster traps and melted butter. He could be hired away from his lifeguard duties to promote any major gym chain.

Squidward Tentacles: Squidward is Spongebob's moody next door neighbor. He is the eternal pessimist who doesn’t find good in anything. He would be the perfect candidate to represent Zoloft or any other anti-depressant drugs.

Mr. Eugene Krabs: Krabs is the owner of the Crusty Krab, a local fast food diner that serves up Crabby Patties to Bikini Bottom’s residents. No one knows what’s in a Crabby Patty because the ingredients are top secret. Krabs is known to be a tight fisted cheapskate that hordes his wealth. He could be the face of any bank that promotes any type of savings program. If nothing else, he could become a fundraiser, lobbyist or the face of the next big infomercial product.

Hopefully, no one was offended by any of these marketing ideas. If so, please share your concerns with Squidward Tentacles.
