During the Super Bowl, we can expect our share of Viagra and beer commercials. Most Super Bowl commercials cater to men since more men watch the biggest game in the country. Even President Obama loves the NFL. Although I enjoy Super Bowl commercials, I detest their depictions of men. Many commercials are so absurd, they make me want to turn in my male membership card.
Between football plays, many of us will watch men in pastel suits trying to score with the ladies or men acting like buffoons for their favorite beer.
Why do commercials depict men as knuckle dragging primates? Men have been reduced to nothing more than a group of overweight apes who will do anything for food, drink, and an opportunity to mate.
Unfortunately, commercials are only taking a page from ignorant television sitcoms.
For example, take a look at the typical TV dad. Our entire gender is associated with the likes of Al Bundy, Homer Simpson, and the dads played by Ray Romano and Jim Belushi. Does anyone actually have a father that is as dumb as any of those four goons?
The typical TV dad is often witless and becomes the butt of all the jokes. Even their own kids outwit them without any effort.
There is no comparison between the typical TV dad and my father. My father is an intelligent man who has worked hard every day of his life. I am not sure where the dumb TV male personality came from, but I am sure it wasn’t from me, my father, or any other man I know.
