The nigerian nightmare

I saw a shocking headline this week.

“Woman out $400K to Nigerian Scam con Artists”

Janella Spears of Sweet Home, Oregon must be the only person in America that didn’t know about this scam. I made a reference to it in a past blog. She must not have read it.

If you have an email account, you know the scam. Some poor soul is caught up in Nigeria or some other imaginary foreign country. He is trying to escape his oppression and will need your assistance in the form of an untraceable wire transfer. As a reward for helping him escape, he will transfer his millions into your account.

Many years ago, I received this scam in my mail box before email. Ms. Spears sounds like an intelligent woman. She is a nursing administrator and a pastor who performs weddings.

That’s what shocked me.

I wondered how this intelligent woman could be so easily fooled.
She got fooled because she wanted something for nothing.

She isn’t the only person looking for some easy money. If you don’t believe me, turn on your TV at 3 a.m. You can buy a package that will teach you how to become wealthy in a week.

These hucksters randomly send out thousands of emails. They know if they send 20,000 emails, they can rope in a few suckers who will send them money. These hucksters should be tarred and feathered if caught. But, they won't get caught because the victim is too embarrassed to call the police or tell a loved one they got scammed.

If your reading this, repeat after me “if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.”

If you need money, get a job and work hard or invent a product everyone needs..
