The world's largest man finds love

Manuel Uribe

Manuel Uribe, who once weighed 1,235 pounds has slimmed down to about 700 pounds.

Two years of steady dieting have helped Uribe drop nearly 550 pounds. Unfortunately, Uribe still cannot walk his fiancĂ©e, Claudia Solis, down the aisle. He celebrates his 43rd birthday with a simple wish for next year—stand on his own two feet to get married.

"It frustrates me a little, because it is not easy to get out," said Uribe, who has not been able to leave his bed for the past six years. "We are in love, and this year my birthday wish is to be able to stand when we get married," Uribe said.

This feel good story serves as proof that love can motivate us to set goals we may not otherwise have pursued. Uribe changed his eating habits and established a goal to lose enough weight to walk his lady love down the aisle.

Many of us make changes to please our partners. Our changes may not be as complicated as losing hundreds of pounds. For example, we may be able to help out with housework or assist with making dinner. One-sided relationship don’t typically survive while successful relationships require sacrifice and willingness to make changes.

The game of love is won by couples willing to work as a team and adapt to life together. Ask any long term couple the secret of their relationship and the word compromise is sure to be found in their answer. With love, patience, and endurance, Uribe and Solis may be able to make it down to the church sooner than later.
