After a four year hiatus, Walmart brings back its greeters


After taking a hiatus away from the greeter position, Walmart has announced that greeters are returning. Before 2012, greeters stood at the front door to welcome customers and pass out shopping carts. After shelving the practice, Walmart moved those workers into other positions throughout the store.

But Walmart has a new purpose for their greeters. Instead of just greeting customers, the new “customer hosts” will check receipts. The company expects the move to help reduce theft. Based on company sales reports, it’s estimated that theft costs Walmart $3 billion each year.

Although Walmart is the world’s largest retailer, executives in Bentonville, Arkansas must be sick over losing $3 billion. Fox News reported that Walmart has profited over the past six quarters, but the numbers have been slight.
